A Comprehensive Guide to Psetting on Campus

A Comprehensive Guide to Psetting on Campus EDIT: this post is back bois I didnt know Google had a shareable mapping service and used a terrible one instead so I redid the map with Google Last year during freshman fall, I made a couple of guides to random things on campus. Id like to bring that back this year, along with a much better mapping system than a poorly edited PDF. The first map that Im doing this semester is here its a guide to nice places to work on classwork on campus (more informally known as psetting). The places were sourced from a Google form I sent out to ec-discuss, East Campuss general purpose mailing list. The blue map markers indicate places that I enjoy psetting in as well, and the black markers indicate places that are limited access. Click on the name of a location on the sidebar to see pictures and information about it! Some of the pictures arent working, but Ill try to get them up eventually If you have any suggestions for other places you like to pset on campus, send me a picture and a blurb about it and Ill add it to the map! Coming soon: possibly the most comprehensive guide Ive ever made Post Tagged #it took so long to take pictures of all these places

529s for Aunts and Uncles

Financial Professional Content I enjoy hearing real-life examples involving 529 plans being used to help send children to college and, at the same time, helping to fulfill legacy desires. I recently received a note from a financial planner with a powerful story concerning a widowed client who contributed over $1 million into 529 plans for her nieces and nephews. If your client base includes at least a few aunts or uncles who do not have children of their own, this story should be of interest to you as well. The planner, David Zalles of Blue Bell, PA, describes an 82 year-old widow with a $3.4 million estate. Federal estate taxes are not much of a concern for this particular client now that the lifetime exemption is $5.25 million. However, she happens to reside in Pennsylvania, where inheritances directed to non-family members and non-lineal descendants are taxed at 15 percent. Pennsylvania has a special provision that shields assets within a PA-sponsored 529 plan from the inheritance tax, even when contributions were made within the previous 12 months. With 17 grand-nieces and nephews, four of whom were already in college, the client maximized her use of the five-year election in making contributions to PA's 529 plan totaling $1,190,000 (17 times $70,000). Inheritance tax savings: $178,500. In addition, she is able to claim a deduction against Pennsylvania income taxes of $14,000 per beneficiary, which at PA's 3.07% state tax rate adds up to another $7,307 of tax savings. Even if she were to die the following day, the client's actions saved over $185,000 in state taxes. As Mr. Zalles describes it, the client "is ecstatic at my plan that will provide her a means of leaving a 'legacy' and save [taxes] at the same time." Creating Healthcare Delivery System For Rural Communities

Background Sixty million people or 19% of the total US population reside in rural communities that continually face numerous challenges to health care that remains too fragmented, making the healthcare system too costly, less effective and less accessible (Enthoven, 2009). One of the approaches to address the fragmentation (Enthoven, 2009) is creating healthcare delivery system that is organized, coordinated, and working in a collaborative network linking various healthcare providers to addresses behavioral, social, economic, and environmental determinants of health. The residents in the rural communities face what some refer to as â€Å"double disparities†: they tend to exhibit risky health behaviors, and are characterized by limited resources, which in turn lead to poor health outcomes, (Harris, JK, et al. 2016). In addition, deficits in infrastructures and capacities mean many have limited access to the available opportunities in terms of funding through private, federal, or state grants (Berkowitz, 2004); this in turn increases the gaps in public health capacities between rural and urban communities. Even after accounting for differences in poverty and health care supply, compared to urban residents, residents in rural areas are also less likely to have access to preventive care measures such as cholesterol, cervical cancer, and dental screening (Caldwell JT, et al., 2016). Access to high quality population health services is further limited to residents in ruralShow MoreRelatedCase Study : Piramal Group, India1129 Words   |  5 Pagesbelieve there are unexplored innovative solutions that have the potential to make a significant impact on the problems India confronts. Glass Ceiling in the Australian Work Force - 1506 Words

Glass ceiling in the Australian work force is still an issue in today’s society. I will demonstrate how stereotyping affects males’ perception of women and how it affects women’s perception of gender roles, which supports the concept, that glass ceiling still exists. Stereotyping is to believe that, â€Å"all people or things with similar characteristics are the same,† (â€Å"stereotype†, 2014). The term glass ceiling refers to the invisible barriers that prevent women from succeeding and moving up the metaphoric ladder in the corporate world. Women are perceived as a minority in the workforce, they are aware of the occupational advances, but find them difficult to achieve due to prejudice, (Weir, 2004). Feminism is defined as the social movements†¦show more content†¦Businesses should see a women’s caring nature as an attribute to their business and adapt their business to become more appealing to a wider audience. Studies have shown that companies that promote gender equality are more productive, holistic, competitive and higher educated, (Workplace Gender Equality Agency [WGEA], 2014). Stereotyping affects women’s perception of gender roles and supports the concept that glass ceiling still exists. The main stakeholder in the issue of glass ceiling in the work force, are the women themselves. Feminism is a word used to describe individuals who express a different view in gender equity, and desire to make changes in society’s perception of women. In history we have seen many forms of feminism, in 1792 Mary Wollstonecraft led the early liberal feminist movement, which raised awareness of the inequity of women. Mary Wollstonecraft wrote that everybody should have the right to self-determination, â€Å"that is the reasoning by which liberal enlightenment thought opposed the divine rights of the kings and aristocracies should be used against the divine right of the husbands and women’s obedience to men,† (Bowden Mummery, 2009).
